Mobile Printers / PDA Printers

A variety of mobile printers can be used on routes and by traveling salespersons. Route printers do not have to be Palm printers or PDA printers - with a vehicle AC/DC converter, even a 'regular' printer can be used.  Bluetooth has emerged as the best printing option for mobile receipt printers - no wires, no 'line of sight' pointing - you just have to be in the general area of the bluetooth printer. Because of these many advantages, just about all mobile printers now offer a bluetooth option. This table includes a sample listing.

Bachmann Print Drivers

ALO software uses Bachmann Print Manager printer drivers to print to different mobile printers - including Zebra Cameo, Oneil Microflash, Extech, Printek, and Datecs.  Be sure to verify that your mobile printer is supported by clicking here to link to the Bachmann printer compatibility list (pdf format).

To select a type of printer, click on the Bachmann Print Manager 'PrintSetup' icon on the main handheld screen.

To verify what version of Bachmann Print Manager you have installed on your handheld:

  • Press the Bachmann 'Print Setup' icon on the main handheld screen.
  • At the Print Setup screen, press the drop down menu  icon on the silkscreen, then at the 'Options' drop down menu select 'About'.
  • At the 'About PrintSetup' screen, both 'Print Setup' and the 'Installed Drivers' versions are displayed.

Wireless Printing

Just about any USB or parallel printer can become a wireless bluetooth printer by using a USB/parallel port bluetooth adapter.

Wireless infrared printing requires a direct 'line of sight' between the handheld and printer, while bluetooth just needs to be in the 'general area.'  This gives bluetooth a big advantage - the  salesperson can just press the PRINT button, and not have to 'aim' the handheld at the printer.

Printing Multiple Copies

Serial Impact printers can print multiple copies at one time. Laser and thermal printers print only one copy at a time.

ALO software can be configured to automatically print up to three copies on a laser or thermal printer.  In addition, the software can print user defined text, such as 'Customer Copy', 'Office Copy', and 'Sales Copy' on the different copies.

Continuous Form Printer?

A continuous form (Point of Sale style) sales order mobile printer can print a maximum of about 30-40 columns per line. A sample POS style receipt is included below (this printout can be changed to fit your company, using the ALO sales order formatter).

In addition to route sales order printing, ALO Order Entry can print several reports from the handheld - including reports for reconciling payments and inventory. These reports require a printer that can print up to 132 columns.
